For the past 16 years (minus 1 in inner city Pittsburgh) I’ve lived in the West Philly area. Literally everywhere I go (except in certain situations at work) I am the minority in number and it’s been that way for a long time. I’m the minority in number at the restaurants I go to, the sports bars I go to, the church I go to, the concerts I go to and perform at, the dollar store I go to, at the barber shop. This isn’t me trying to me someone I am not. It is who I am, who I feel comfortable around. Who I can relate to. I actually feel more comfortable around black culture. I often feel awkward being in all white gatherings since I have such different experiences and interests than many of them. I’m aware I could frequent other places and attend a predominately white church. Where I go is is all by choice and preference.<br />
<br />
For more than a decade I’ve worked with some amazing track and field, soccer, basketball, and football players at the collegiate and NFL level as a strength coach and those teams are predominately made up of minorities. All my relationships I’ve been in since 2001 have been with black women as that’s who I’m more attracted to, no disrespect to anyone else. I love black women but have also had my heart broken by black women multiple times. The women I’ve more recently talked to/dated are all black queens. I think it’s safe to say that when I do have kids they will be black. I have 9 biracial nieces and nephews who I love to death. Over 75% of my friends on social media are minorities or people of color. Over 75 % of my closest friends are black. I’ve laughed with my brothers. I’ve rejoiced with my brothers. I’ve cried with my brothers.<br />
<br />
And right now I grieve with my brothers and sisters. I hurt when they hurt. And right now I know they are hurting due to the lack of justice in America.<br />
<br />
I mentioned earlier that the lane I’ve felt God has wanted me to be in with my music has been to minister to people who are suffering. I believe that is the heart of God. To show mercy and compassion to those who are hurting.
Another innocent unarmed black man was murdered by the police in ruthless, heartless fashion. If you’re reading this and you can’t understand why people are so infuriated by this consider the following. My friends have to fear if they get pulled over if the people who are supposed to be protecting them , could actually kill them for no good reason. My nephews have to live with being seen as a threat when they are the most loving boys I’ve ever met.<br />
<br />
You may be wondering, well how come black people don’t get as upset about black on black crime that happens everyday in their communities? I see where you are coming from and murder is murder and evil is evil. This should be frowned upon and further change needs to take place. However, the main difference here is that when someone in the hood kills someone and there is clear evidence for it, they are almost always convicted of murder and locked up. Whereas there have been countless innocent black people killed by the police throughout our nation’s history, and each time the police officers are let off the hook, even when there is clear evidence to show they are guilty of killing. So people are not just upset about George Floyd but a system of racism that has existed in America for far too long.
I’ve been pulled over while driving only a handful of times in my life. The majority of those times I’ve had black friends in the car. Coincidence? I think not. I realize that when I get pulled over I don’t have to fear for my life in the same way my black friends do. I’m aware that when I walk into a store I don’t get the same accusatory stares or followed around like they have to go through. I’m aware that I don’t have to face systematic oppression like they do.<br />
<br />
I know what it’s like to be the minority situationally because that’s my everyday life. I will still never know what it’s like to be black in America and face the same oppression that my brothers and sisters face, and I’ll never pretend to know what that’s like. There are plenty of FB posts and stuff I’ve seen on social media lately from some of my black friends that I don’t agree with. But I think there is a time for everything as Ecclesiastes tells us. Right now I think wisdom says to grieve with those who grieve and mourn with those who mourn. I won’t sit here and tell you how to grieve. I am not ashamed of being a white man in America because that is how God made me. But I am ashamed of the oppression other white people have placed on black people for over 400 years. I am ashamed of the hatred in their heart and the wicked deeds done by claiming to be superior due to skin pigmentation.<br />
<br />
I do not have all the answers but I do know that one day believers will worship in heaven with people from EVERY nation, EVERY tribe and EVERY tongue. A place where there will be no more tears, no more police brutality, no more murder, no more death, no more racism, and no more hatred; because of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. I long for that day.Believin Stephenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08539035580687162634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3410613938428801493.post-7677980119401510992020-06-05T14:27:00.000-07:002020-06-05T14:33:38.921-07:00White Kid Black Culture Part 1 “White Kid/Black Culture”. I want to share some of my story since I grew up a lot different than most white people and have had unique experiences that many have not gone through. My prayer is that these posts would help encourage many and bring about more unity in a divided country. I’m going to make this a 3 part series so please be patient with me. I plan to ultimately get to more current situational stuff with this.<br />
<br />
In my early years my life was like most white Americans and I was surrounded by mainly white people and very little minorities. I admired African-American athletes such as Michael Jordan and Barry Bonds but I was pretty sheltered. Then in 3rd grade that drastically changed when my Mom and my 3 brothers moved to inner city Pittsburgh. I started going to a diverse school called Colfax Elementary in Squirrel Hill. I hated it at first and was bullied and called honkie by black kids at school. I cried every morning telling my Mom I wanted to move back to the suburbs but then after a few months I actually began to love that school. Thanks Mom for not allowing us to grow up in sheltered cozy America. I became good friends with many black kids and from then on I have to say that black culture helped raised me.<br />
<br />
My favorite shows were In Living Color, Martin and Living Single. Some of my favorite movies were New Jersey Drive, Hoop Dreams, and Above the Rim. And of course I was immersed in hip-hop culture. I’d sit by the radio every night dubbing the Top 8 at 8 on the WAMO station to cassette tape. Every day after school me and Tim would watch Rap City and Yo MTV Raps watching our favorite rappers. Nas, Smif N Wessun, Wu-Tang, 2Pac, Common, Mobb Deep, etc. I wore Cross Colours, Karl Kani, Mecca, Pelle Pelle, Boss, and a few years later First Down,Ecko, Phat Farm, Enyce, Fubu, etc. In the 5th grade I joined the African-American Quiz Show team at Colfax and helped our school win 1st place in the city. I studied material from Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, MLK, W.E.B. Du Bois and many others. I also memorized numerous accomplishments, inventions, and historical facts about many great African-Americans that led to us dominating the competition. This helped instill in me tremendous respect for the history of the African-American struggle in American and the many great accomplishments made despite insurmountable odds.<br />
<br />
In 6th grade I attended Reizenstein Middle School which was 85% black and known for being one of the most rugged schools in the city. There were lots of fights and can’t lie it was intimidating. Remember I was a 6th grader and was a little bol before I was gettin swole lol. I was the only white bol in my class. Dudes in my class would clown me for being a virgin. Yes in 6th grade I’m not lying. Then for 2 years we moved back to the suburbs where I went to a school that was the complete opposite demographic. I got constantly made fun of for my dress, musical taste and was called “wigger” on a regular basis by the white students. That didn’t deter me from being who I was though. I didn’t change my style up one bit.
I attended high school in inner city Pittsburgh at Taylor Allderdice High School (where the likes of Curtis Martin, Wiz Khalifa, and Mac Miller went). It was a diverse school and was one of only a few white kids on the basketball team. My love for hip-hop continued to grow, particularly underground hip-hop. I would wild out at parties and freestyle but didn’t write or perform any actual songs. I was a nominal Christian who thought I was a good person since occasionally I would attend the same church Mr. Rogers went to and would check out “Our Daily Bread” before bed sometimes. Turns out I was dead in my sins and in need of a Savior.<br />
<br />
Then in college the Lord saved me and the dude who lived right next to me always bumped Christian hip-hop, which I had never heard of before except for DC Talk. I went to church with him at a faulty oneness pentacostal church (until Tim told me how faulty it was and I bounced). I helped serve in a black Christian organization called Warriors for Christ and my closest friends in college at the University of Delaware were black.
I would drive up to Philly on a regular basis to fellowship with Timothy, Shai, DJ Essence, J-Silas and many others. The rest is history- I started rapping for the Lord and have been putting out music for the Lord for the last 15 years spitting all over America and the entire world. I’m grateful to have been able to have a platform via hip-hop that was started by black people in times of struggle. The reason I started rhyming for the Lord was to reach people who were suffering in particular and I’ve always felt that was the lane God wanted me in. So right now, I am here for my friends who are suffering due to injustice and police brutality in America.<br />
<br />
I stand with them in the fight for justice. Christ Jesus cares about justice and He is going to bring justice. It might look different than we expect but I know He cares.
Isaiah 42:1-4 “Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights, I have put my Spirit upon Him. He will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice, or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be discouraged till he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his law.”Believin Stephenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08539035580687162634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3410613938428801493.post-3388966906695880972014-08-28T18:34:00.001-07:002014-09-11T17:12:47.057-07:00Gametime Shirts Back in Stock!!!New Gametime Shirts are back in stock. I have some exciting news! I have been requested to come back to Europe this summer to help spread the gospel. Last year’s mission trip with The Collective was quite effective and there is great demand to reach Europeans with the truth of the gospel through the medium of hip-hop.
I’ve been invited by a missionary based in the Paris area, who is with Greater Europe Mission (GEM). GEM is an inter-denominational family of Christ-followers focused on evangelism, discipleship multiplication, and church planting. This is pivotal because after I leave Europe, individuals who were impacted will be followed-up with and have the opportunity to join Christ-centered faith communities where they can grow and help advance the Kingdom.<br />
<br />
<b>The Problem: </b><br />
The Christian growth rate in Europe over the past 100 years is the lowest in the world. Can you believe that 400 million Europeans have never opened a Bible? Europe is the least-reached continent in the world. Less than 1% of the population of France follows Jesus as personal Lord and Savior. What was once a great center of Christian theology and reform is now a spiritual desert. Europe is familiar with religion, but the knowledge and experience keep most from discovering a life-changing relationship with Jesus. The lost in Europe must hear the gospel, and this summer, I plan to share it with them through this catalytic missional ministry opportunity.<br />
<br />
<b>What/When/Where:</b><br />
I have a unique opportunity to merge Missions and hip-hop in European cities. From June 18-July 1 I will be sharing Christ in the greater Paris region and in England. These places are predominately made up of atheists and are in desperate need of the gospel. Myself, along with another Christian artist Tha KiddJopp (Christcentric) will use the medium of hip-hop to gather crowds and openly share about salvation in Jesus.<br />
<br />
<b>Why hip-hop?:</b><br />
These countries are fascinated with American hip-hop, which gives us an immediate ministry platform. Hundreds will hear the Gospel as we do street evangelism, perform at free open air concerts, secular music venues, musical festivals, open mic nights, schools and cyphers. After the concerts we will engage with the audience and local hip-hop communities, sharing the gospel one-on-one. We cannot wait to see God do mighty things as he restores Europe!<br />
<br />
<b>You:</b><br />
Here’s where you come in. Each Christian artist is responsible for raising the needed funds for his own food, housing, and travel expenses. Financially I cannot get to these countries on my own. Would you prayerfully consider partnering with me to reach lost Europeans by making a financial contribution of $50, $100, $250, or some other amount? (no amount is too small)<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>How to contribute? </b><br />

<b><br /></b>
<b>Alongside financial partners, I need a team of prayer warriors. Please pray: </b><br />
-That right now, God would begin to prepare the hearts of those we will share Christ with.<br />
-That we would be filled with the Holy Spirit and fervent about spreading God's Truth.<br />
-For opportunities to minister deeply to the Europeans.<br />
-For boldness to proclaim the gospel.<br />
-For safe travels.<br />
<br />
Thank you for considering partnering with me in this adventure! Please inbox me if you are interested in supporting me financially or through prayer so I can give you more details about the trip.<br />
<br />
Thanks,<br />

<span class="userContent" data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">The last few months you may have seen me post some pictures up of me in the studio working on a new album. Up until this point I haven’t announced what the title and concept have been for this new project. I feel like it’s the right time to share. Those who know me closely know that this past year has been a difficult one for me full of trials. There has been a lot of pain and suffering. At times <span class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;">I’ve questioned God and doubted his goodness. However, the whole time God has been near to me and I’ve been able to seek Him consistently in prayer. I talk about these experiences in a heartfelt, transparent way on the album. This is the realest stuff I’ve ever written. It’s the most practical stuff I’ve ever written.<br /><br />I’ve realized that every single day I must make a choice. I must choose to believe God’s truth over Satan’s lies. I must believe God’s promises instead of doubting that He cares about me. I know that I am not alone in this daily pursuit. This is something every single Christian regularly deals with. In fact, I’d say this is something every unbeliever deals with as well: The fight to believe in God. It’s a battle. Each day we are going to either believe the lies the world, our flesh, and the devil tell us or we are going to believe what God tells us. We will believe the truth or believe a lie. Without further ado, the title of my new album coming out this summer is “Battling Unbelief”!!! May God be glorified through it! May you be<br />encouraged! More news and announcements will be coming soon about this project! <a class="_58cn" data-ft="{"tn":"*N","type":104}" href="https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/battlingunbelief" style="cursor: pointer; text-decoration: none;">#BattlingUnbelief</a></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 15px;"><a ajaxify="/ajax/shares/view?target_fbid=10101605397632184" aria-label="Show shares" class=" UFIBlingBoxTimelineItem" data-ft="{"tn":"O"}" data-hover="tooltip" data-reactid=".2g.$reshare" data-tooltip-alignh="right" href="https://www.facebook.com/shares/view?id=10101605397632184" rel="async" style="cursor: pointer; display: inline-block; text-decoration: none;"><i class=" UFIBlingBoxTimelineReshareIcon UFIBlingBoxSprite" data-reactid=".2g.$reshare.$reshare.0" style="background-position: 0px -76px; background-size: auto; cursor: pointer; display: inline-block; height: 16px; margin-top: -1px; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: text-top; width: 16px;"></i></a></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;"></span></div>
<div style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<b>The Problem</b>: </div>
<div style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
The Christian growth rate in Europeover the past 100 years is the lowest in the world. Can you believe that 400 million Europeans have never opened a Bible? What was once a great center of Christian theology and reform is now a spiritual desert. The lost in Europe must hear the gospel, and this summer, I plan to do just that.</div>
<div style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<b> </b></div>
<b></b><br />
<div style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<b>What/When/Where</b>:</div>
<div style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
I have a unique opportunity to merge Missions and hip-hop in European cities! From June 7-June 22 I will travel across major cultural hubs like Poland, Amsterdam, Ireland, the United Kingdom,and France, sharing Christ. All of these places are predominately made up of atheists and are in desperate need of the gospel! Myself, along with a group of other Christian artists (The Collective group and Deejay Essence), will use the medium of hip-hop to gather crowds and openly share about salvation in Jesus.</div>
<div style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<b>Why hip-hop?:</b></div>
<div style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
These countries are fascinated with American hip-hop, which gives us an immediate ministry platform. Hundreds will hear the Gospel as we do street evangelism, perform at free open air concerts, secular music venues,open mic nights, and cyphers. After the concerts we will engage with the audience and local hip-hop communities, sharing the gospel one on one. We cannot wait to see God do mighty things as he restores Europe!</div>
<div style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">

<b>You:</b></div>
<div style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Here’s where you come in. Each Christian artist is responsible for raising the needed funds for his own food, housing, and travel expenses. Financially I cannot get to these countries on my own. Would you prayerfully consider partnering with me to reach lost Europeans by making a financial contribution of $50,$100, $250, or some other amount? (no amount is too small)</div>

<div class="MsoNormal"><b><i><span style="font-size: 14pt; line-height: 115%;">Surprised by Suffering? </span></i></b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b><u>Background</u></b></div><div class="MsoNormal">Big Juice from Cleveland produced this anthem like beat and I chose for it to be the first actual song on the album due to its energy and adventurous feel. I felt this song was fitting for starting the journey of talking about suffering. Some people questioned if I abandoned by underground boom bap roots on this song and I don’t feel I did. I think it is good for artists to step out of their comfort zone and try new things as long as it fits right. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">The theme scripture of this song is 1 Peter 4:12-13:</div><div class="MsoNormal">“Beloved do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.”</div><div class="MsoNormal">The song was inspired by a book called “Surprised by Suffering” written by R.C. Sproul. Sproul is my favorite author and he handles the topic of suffering exceptionally well in this book. I echo some of the main points he made in the book on my song;</div><div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span><span>-<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span></span>We should be prepared to suffer. In tough times we run to God for comfort and He delights in ministering to us in times of pain. We can walk through the valley of the shadow of death without fear because Christ is with us and goes through the valley with us!</div><div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle" style="text-indent: -0.25in;"><span><span>-<span style="font: 7pt "Times New Roman";"> </span></span></span>Our divine vocation is not ultimately to suffering, but to a hope that triumphs over suffering (a future inheritance with Christ) * I recommend checking out www.ligonier.org for more info on Sproul’s ministry. </div><div class="MsoListParagraphCxSpLast"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">On the first verse I urge the listener to not be surprised when trials come. Especially when passages like 1 Thessalonians 3:3-4 tell us we’ve been destined for affliction as Christians. I also remind the listener to have the proper perspective when it comes to suffering and remember that we are called to suffer with joy knowing that suffering produces<span> </span>perseverance, character and hope (Romans 5:3-5; James 1:2-4; 1 Peter 1:6)</div><div class="MsoNormal">On the second verse I start off by talking about churches that preach the prosperity gospel. The lyrics don’t talk about one specific experience I had at churches with bad doctrine but a combination of experiences that I summed up in the first 8 bars. The following line is key:</div><div class="MsoNormal">“<i>There’s nothing wrong with being extra paid</i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i>But we’ll still suffer, let me set the stage</i>”</div><div class="MsoNormal">It is foolishness to treat God like a genie in the bottle and only give more tithes or more sacrifice to God in order to get desired material blessings out of God. It is also foolishness to think that if you tithe a certain amount that you will be exempt from suffering. It’s also erroneous to think that if God does not heal you from your sickness that you did not have enough faith in Him. The bottom line is that we will all suffer and we will all grow old and die someday. </div><div class="MsoNormal">I want to break down some lyrics from the end of this verse that should help you understand them better. In 1998 the basketball player Ray Allen was featured in a movie called “He Got Game”. Ray Allen was the main character in the movie and his name was Jesus Shuttlesworth. If you were unfamiliar with that movie the lines below probably did not make sense but hopefully now they do <span style="font-family: Wingdings;"><span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Wingdings;"><span> </span></span> </div><div class="MsoNormal">“<i>All the godly will suffer while cats stay wilin</i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i>We need Jesus, NO Ray Allen</i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i>Not Shuttlesworth, but Christ Jesus</i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i>Defeated death then flexed, NO wife beater”</i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="height: 133px; margin-left: 561px; margin-top: 46px; position: absolute; width: 135px; z-index: -1;"><img height="133" src="file:///C:/Users/sbrindle/AppData/Local/Temp/msohtmlclip1/01/clip_image004.gif" width="135" /></span>On the third verse I bring the message home and ask the listener if their faith would remain if they had to suffer for the sake of His name. This is a question we should all ponder during our walk because one day it may come down to that. I believe it is much easier said than done. However, if we are PREPARED for suffering then when trials or persecution come we will be better able to respond well in these situations. I will use a sports/weight room analogy here. Scientific research has proven that athletes who were on a consistent weight training program prior to getting injured recover quicker from injuries than athletes who were not on a consistent weight training program prior to getting injured. The injury was still painful for the athlete but they were better prepared to bounce back from the injury due to their previous strength training. If we are spiritually training before the trial (injury) comes when things get rugged we will be better prepared to bounce back from the trial. It’s still going to hurt and be tough but we’ll be better equipped in the difficult times. Throughout the whole of Scripture you see stories of characters that walked with God. Many of these men suffered immensely such as Joseph, Job, David, Jeremiah, and Paul. The Bible shows their vulnerabilities and how they went through times of doubt and despair. It also shows how their trials produced great character in these men’s lives. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">Another key point made in the third verse is that as sinners we are deserving of death. Therefore, anything good we get from God is only grace. Many times when things go wrong we act like God is being unfair and that we deserve much better. Nothing could be further from the truth. When things go wrong we are just getting what we deserve from God. <span> </span>Keeping this in mind will cause us to not be surprised when fiery trials come our way. We’ll be less likely to point the finger at God, and sin in our rebellion and more likely to be thankful that the suffering is conforming us into the image of Christ. This is the last key point I make in this song. Sanctification is a continual process where God is making us more and more like Christ. This can’t happen unless we suffer. You can call them “growing pains” if you’d like but growth is never easy and because we are born with sinful hearts we need heart surgery. Surgery is always a painful procedure. God gradually prunes us from our pleasures in this world to help prepare us for better pleasures in heaven. He is sovereign over our suffering and our suffering is for our own good! </div>Believin Stephenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08539035580687162634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3410613938428801493.post-16836016322824718852011-06-28T11:55:00.001-07:002011-06-28T11:55:20.912-07:00ReddLettaz New Mixtape<a href="http://www.datpiff.com/Redd-Lettaz-Undarate-Me-Mixtape.245204.html">http://www.datpiff.com/Redd-Lettaz-Undarate-Me-Mixtape.245204.html</a><br />

TKI've been saying the word "Cannon" in my songs for several years now. It's become my trademark to give a loud "Cannon!" at the end of one of my rowdy verses. Anyone who knows me or TK personally knows we say this word all the time as part of our regular vocab. Some people might not be familiar why we say it so much so we made this song to break it down.<br />

I break it down on the song "Gametime Anthem" which I released a few years ago. This is the link to download it for free! <br />
